The Knowledge Of God
And Of His Son
Voliscience:1 God knows whatever He wills to know, whenever He wills to know; nothing can be kept or hidden from Him.
Omniscience: Because of His All-Knowing nature, God inherently has immediate and exhaustive knowledge of all actualities and possibilities for all of eternity and time past, present, and future.
Voliscience is dialectically true and rhetorically true.
Omniscience is dialectically false, but rhetorically true.
If God or the Son of God says He does not know something or someone, then I accept His saying, whether I understand it or not. If He does not say, then I assume He knows, until He says otherwise.2
“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it. … Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you make Me know.”3
Surely I am more senseless than any man, And I do not have the understanding of mankind. Neither have I learned wisdom, Nor do I know the knowledge of the Holy One. Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name? And what is His Son’s name? Surely you know!4
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is unsearchable.5
Then Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us to know good and evil;”6
and say, ‘Hear the word of Yahweh, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, “Behold, I am about to bring a calamity upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle. Because they have forsaken Me and have made this a foreign place and have burned incense in it to other gods, that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah had ever known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever come upon My heart, therefore, behold, days are coming,” declares Yahweh,’7
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.”8
And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ And He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; depart from Me, all you workers of unrighteousness.’”9
The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.10
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”11
Thank you, Vox Day, for this neologism.
Psalm 139 Legacy Standard Bible (LSB)
O Yahweh, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Yahweh, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, And You have put Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. …
